Reasonable true crime that continues to move people to this day, especially in the US. I personally don't believe a word the brothers say...

Fairly captivating documentary in which the Menendez brothers are portrayed more sympathetically than in the recent series Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story. The story behind the brutal murder of their parents remains bizarre in any case and here too we are not presented with conclusive answers. Expertly put together, with entertaining interviews with all kinds of people involved. The commentary of the brothers themselves is a big plus.

On the night of August 19 to 20, Lyle (21) and Erik Menendez (18) shot their parents to death in their Beverly Hills home. At first, they pretended it was a robbery or a settling of scores until the police discovered they had the murder weapon. In order to avoid the death penalty or a life sentence, lawyers Leslie Abramson and Jill Lansing had to convince the jury that the boys had shot their parents because they were in danger of their lives. Father José was accused of years of sexual abuse, while mother Kitty allegedly turned a blind eye to it all that time. This one-sided documentary gives Lyle and Erik all the space to tell their story and suggests that the brothers were pioneers because they dared to speak openly (millions of people watched via Court TV) about sexual abuse and conveniently assumes that judge Stanley Weisberg was biased and that the public prosecutor was mainly out for blood. Pamela Bozanich (who represented the State during the first trial) barely speaks, but her closing words about the influence of TikTok are telling. Leslie Abramson and Jill Lansing refused to cooperate, a sign of the times for this documentary that provides no new or concrete evidence to overturn the verdict!
