The Radleys plot

The Radley family seems perfectly normal at first glance. Only parents Helen and Peter know of their true nature as vampires and they choose not to feed on blood. Clara and Rowan have two teenagers at home who are told the truth after an incident at school. Rowan is tempted to taste blood for the first time, a feeling that is reinforced by the arrival of his Uncle Will, who experiences life as a vampire to the fullest.

It is not easy to bring something new to the vampire genre, and this film again misses the mark. Not so much because of the sloppiness with the mirror - and the SLR camera, but mainly because of the fumbling with Lewis and his double role. It feels like the direction was so full of that that there was no attention left for the rest of the film.

It was a bit brave to cast Lewis anyway - he's pretty much finished after his antipathetic role in Homeland. But I liked him, and a film with Kelly Macdonald can never be completely bad, and what a pleasure to hear her accent again.

Furthermore, for a comedy there is very little to laugh at, and the vampire stuff is really too tame and anemic. If you want to do something with that, it really has to bring something more. And besides that, if you make a film about vampires, at least honor the tropes that go with it - and without lazy cherry-picking, please. A little respect, please.
