September Says plot

The sisters July and September are like two of a kind, but at the same time they are very different from each other. They are raised by their single mother Sheela. When September is suspended from school, July must learn to take care of herself and then demonstrate her own independence. This change does not go unnoticed by her sister either. The family settles in an Irish holiday home, where tensions rise.

July [Mia Tharia] is a socially awkward girl who is often the target of ridicule, but can always count on the protection of her assertive sister September [Pascale Kann]. September's aggressive impulses result in a suspension and an incident whose outcome we only discover later in the film. As a result, mother Sheela [Rakhee Thakrar] decides that it is better to spend some time at her mother's holiday home. There, the relationship between July and September begins to take on an increasingly dark character. Intriguing psychological thriller that keeps you on your toes with unexpected twists and has a denouement for which Labed provides subtle clues. The final shot is unforgettable.

Ultimately disappointing. In a way the film is just enough to captivate and intrigue despite the fact that the two girls are written very strangely and their behavior was strange and I didn't really believe it. Too artificial. But the acting is okay, the atmosphere is also fine and vaguely I was curious about what was going on now, although I noticed, when they arrived at that house, that someone is probably no longer alive and at the beach scene I knew for sure. Whether a sister has died (I suspect so, but I'm not even 100% sure) or whether one of them is schizophrenic remains a bit unclear to me. Especially that scene in which one sister diesis quite strange, also filmed darkly and therefore could just as easily be a dream or a delusion. If anyone has a convincing explanation, I'd be happy to read it. Nevertheless, the film doesn't really surprise or take me along, towards the end I felt I watched it a bit dutifully without any emotion. 2.5*

I could do something with this. Exactly the mysterious, somewhat occult atmosphere that I like. In the end, not everything is worked out that well, but I could still enjoy it.

There is a constant tension between the sisters that really got under my skin. I was glad when the focus was temporarily on the mother. A moment of rest. The sex scene that starbright boy calls, I secretly found quite funny. A bit of a break in style, but not by accident. That was intriguing.

It's starting to take its toll that I've seen about 400 movies in the past ten years. Unlike mjk87 I didn't see the plot twist coming, but I wasn't really surprised by it either. Oh yeah, that trick.

(I believe, by the way, that one of those two sisters was really dead, given the conversations the surviving girl had with her mother. Although of course they could also have only taken place in her head.)
