Trei Kilometri Pana la Capatul Lumii plot

Seventeen-year-old homosexual Adi spends the summer in his parental village in the Danube Delta. At night he is brutally attacked in the street. Since then, his parents have viewed him in a different way and the peace in the ultra-conservative village seems to have gradually disappeared.

An excellent, very Romanian film that fits seamlessly into the almost endless stream of good and excellent films to come out of that country this century. This is one of those films that depicts an issue and reveals it in all its complexity. The promising student Adi is still in the closet and is utterly beaten up by villagers who have seen a bit too much. But when his parents try to get justice, the whole thing shifts into a web of intertwined interests of all sorts of people.

The film also shows how deeply rooted homophobia is and how difficult it is to eradicate it when it is entrenched in all kinds of organizations and attitudes.

The film is very well written and strongly constructed, and highly recommended. Although, as is typical of Romanian films, it will likely attract fewer viewers.

During an outing with a tourist [Vlad Crudu], Adi [Ciprina Chiujdea] is severely beaten. Father Dragoi [Bogdan Dumitrache] keeps a close eye on the investigation of Pandele [Valeriu Andriuta] and Nicu [Vlad Brumaru] and it soon becomes clear who is responsible. But when Dragoi discovers why his son was beaten up, Adi goes from bad to worse, with the result that a social worker [Alina Berzunteanu] starts asking questions about how he treats his son. A reasonable social drama about a subject that is still taboo in the Romanian countryside is undermined by Parvu's routine, static direction and the slow pace.

Very good film. However, it's very sad that there are still countries that are still living in the Middle Ages in this regard.

While you may have some doubts about Islam, Christianity is also very sad in some areas if you don't fit the 'perfect picture'.

This film also makes you wonder what's more dramatic: getting a few slaps from peers because of your sexual orientation, or being manipulated in very violent ways by your parents, the police, and neighbors!

Both are terrible. The cast is excellent, and the Danube Delta scenery in Romania is beautiful. I never knew it existed.

Everyone should see this film, especially in schools! I'm curious to know what the Romanian community thinks of this film.
