De Mooiste Dag plot

Writer Jasmijn is suffering from serious writer's block after she caused a fatal accident. The only thing she still writes are countless - unanswered - letters to Wim, the widower of the victim. Jasmijn realizes that she cannot continue with her life like this and makes a fairly radical decision. Without saying anything to anyone, she packs her bags and leaves for Morocco where Wim runs a hotel. While her sister and her publisher try to find out where she is, Jasmijn and Wim make an unexpected friendship under the Moroccan sun. However, Jasmijn still has to find the right moment to tell who she actually is.

What I wondered throughout the film: in a fatal car accident, the police are always involved. Then you also know each other's details and identity. Plus, Jasmijn is a celebrity and had won an award that evening. Isn't the accident DIRECTLY in the newspaper? So why didn't anyone know the 'real' story and Wim and Jasmijn didn't know each other at all? At first it bothered me, then I looked around and realized that I'm not the target demographic for this film. In any case, I am amazed at how often Dutch film makers underestimate the audience.

The pacing of the film was too fast in the beginning and the dialogue was dramatic at times ("I had a serious car accident a few years ago, my wife died in it." Who says that in that way in such a sentence?). In the second half of the film everything becomes more balanced and the whole thing is much more pleasant to look at. Some beautiful (atmosphere) images of Morocco, beautifully colored. By the way, a whole bunch of (former) GTST actors were drawn up for this film, but I have to say, they really don't do a bad job. All in all not a dramatic film, but not worth repeating.

Hajo Bruins delivers reasonable acting, Schuurman how many wardrobes can you have with you? Lammers also here good in his assigned role. Film is too one-dimensional in terms of characters and dialogue, does not take away that the fact; from guilt to healing is shown by those involved with integrity. l
