The film, based on a true event, shows that even after the 2011 revolution (the infamous Arab Spring), women are still oppressed in Tunisia and the police and government are still corrupt: a woman in a village with no future prospects is given the unique opportunity to start a new life in the city of Tunis under a new identity, but only an even bigger nightmare awaits her because her false identity makes her easy prey for criminals and she becomes involved in a murder. But with an honest police officer who is disillusioned with the corruption of the police, which allows police violence and criminals to go free, she manages to ensure justice prevails. Like Barsaoui's previous and first film, Bik Eneich: Un Fils (2019), Aïcha is a film clearly inspired by criticism of Tunisian society, but is skillfully packaged as a thrilling thriller.

Through a series of unforeseen circumstances, 29-year-old Aya [Fatma Sfarr] gets the chance to trade her dead-end life as a hotel worker for a carefree life in Tunis. She rents a room from Lobna [Yassmine Dimassi], who introduces her to the nightlife. This carefree life quickly comes to an end when Aya is involved in an incident in which Karim [Ala BenHamad] is killed, and she must tell her story (and identify herself) to a suspicious detective [Nidhal Saadi]. The film takes place in the wake of the Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia. Barsaoui's well-acted dissection of Tunisian society offers interesting insights, but is overshadowed by the far-fetched, melodramatic plot.
