Trauma Porn Club plot

Nova believes that art should 'fuckin' hurt', but the budding artist has never experienced anything even close to traumatic. In the gallery where she works she is no more than an extra and the artists around her do not find her emotions painful enough for a career in those circles. Then she discovers 'Sano', an organization that promises life-changing experiences: from a man masturbating in public to Fight Club-like scenes.

I didn't like this. Strange that I couldn't go along with it. Visually boring, not interesting in terms of content, not exciting or fun or scary or whatever and the actors can't do much with it, while I am normally a fan of Ten Napel, but here it remains extremely colorless. 1.0*.

Exciting thriller about the prejudice that art and suffering should go together. A persistent cliché, the madness of which is shown in a special way in this film.

The film looks nice, and the acting is good. The violent scenes feel realistic and I especially found the operation scene particularly unpleasant.
The film paints an unpleasant picture of the art world as a closed community in which you belong or you don't. And Nova wants nothing more than to belong and be recognized, and goes to great lengths to do so. The world she ends up in after she contacts the app is just as closed as the art world, but she is immediately included in it, much to her delight.

The film reminded me strongly of Fincher's old work, in terms of story, imagery, atmosphere and theme. And that's a compliment. A surprising film with a continuous ominous atmosphere.

4*

Nice direct title, but the content of the film is quite inferior. Director Michael Middelkoop was allowed to make the fourth film in the Koolhoven Presenteert series and each participant was given complete freedom, but clearly with a small budget. Trauma Porn Club is one of those films that is basically quite interesting, but doesn't dare to go all out. The grotesque finale is far too short and individual horror moments far too tame, nevertheless those are precisely the scenes that should make a film like this. In addition, Sigrid ten Napel's downward spiral (due to mediocre acting) does not come into focus. The visual added value of the film is well done, which is kept under tight control by Middelkoop and creates its own atmosphere throughout. I think this is the weakest film in the series so far, but by Dutch standards it is at least something new. Extra points for the fairly unpredictable course.
