Not that good at all.

Static film with a shoddy script and (therefore) poor plot development. That has little to do with the short running time, the film simply lacks verve. The actors do their best and the director has style and is resourceful, but that doesn't make it a good film. 5/10*

Cinematically a lot stronger than NL Alert (which I had seen before this Venus). Well filmed with beautiful use of colors. Nice dark, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, also in the sporadic exterior shots. Gonzalo Fernandez Carmona (great name for a director by the way) has mastered all that.

But I still found it a lot less interesting in terms of the final story. Starts quite interesting, but it gradually lost me and could not keep my attention consistently despite the short playing time. A bit too much style over substance for my taste, although there is a market for that too.

Presenter Martin Koolhoven appointed director Panos Cosmatos to describe this work by Gonzalo Fernandez Carmona and that name also came to mind while watching. Venus has a very focused visual style that more or less completely drowns out the content. It is an odd one, especially for a Dutch production, which is precisely why these types of programs are great for makers with their own vision. Carmona rushes things in terms of content by wanting too much within a limited duration and Sinem Kavus's acting is severely substandard, but the whole thing looks neat and creative. Even though a playing time of 43 minutes is actually not enough to properly develop a concept like this, my personal attention quickly started to wane. I also do not rule out that the figure would have dropped if Carmona had made it into a full-length feature film.
