Le Dernier Jaguar plot

While growing up in the Amazon rainforest, Autumn Edison befriended a lost jaguar cub she names Hope. When a tragic event forces Autumn to leave Hope behind for the unknown New York, she has dreamed for years of returning to the rainforest and her friend. When she is fourteen and has grown accustomed to city life, Autumn discovers that her hometown is under threat from animal traffickers and decides she must return to the Amazon to see her beloved jaguar. Anja, her endearingly clumsy biology teacher, tries in vain to dissuade her from this reckless plan. Together with Anja, Autumn embarks on a journey to reunite with Hope and save her from those who want to destroy the rainforest and its wildlife.

For animal lovers and young people. This Canadian film has its heart in the right place, condemns the trade in exotic animals, and encourages animal protection. Fighting for animals is simply one of the most right and noble things you can do in life. The film is conceived as an adventure in which a teenager travels independently from New York to the Amazon rainforest to rescue her former playmate, a jaguar, from animal traffickers. The biology teacher who tries to stop her is an annoying addition who tries (too) hard to maintain the humor. I also think "naive" is an appropriate word for this film, with the Amazonian who speaks perfect English, writes letters to the girl's father, and is even familiar with smartphones. So cringeworthy. The images of the girl and the jaguar together are heartwarming. It's well-filmed and certainly not bad for young people, but the realism is sometimes lacking.
