Seventeen-year-old Cairo Sweet is a gifted writer. Her new writing teacher, Jonathan Miller, used to be a writer but has since deteriorated so much that he hasn't written a word in years. Miller immediately recognizes how talented Cairo is and the two begin hanging out after classes. Their relationship becomes complicated when Miller asks his student to write a short story. Cairo soon turns to a story about a teacher who tries to seduce a student. This results in a series of events that could destroy Miller's career and, with it, his life.

Psychological thriller about an oversexed student who tries to seduce her much older literature teacher with words and deeds. Jenny Ortega tries to appear sophisticated, but that makes little impression. While Martin Freeman seems especially uncomfortable, Bashir Salahuddin secretly makes off with the film in a supporting role. It all sounds more exciting than it actually is.

Mediocre thriller. The story is a bit confusing and as a viewer you have the feeling that people don't know what to do with the story. In itself it is still moderately interesting because Bartlett knows how to create a fairly brooding atmosphere. The film continues to flow quietly and just manages to hold the viewer's attention. At the end you have the feeling of 'was this it?' The acting is otherwise passable. 2.5/3.0

Literature teacher and failed writer Jonathan Miller [Martin Freeman] gives extra lessons to 17-year-old Cairo [Jenna Ortega] in hopes of expanding her literary talent. Although Cairo is in a lesbian relationship with Winnie [Gideon Adlon], she acts as seductively as possible towards Mr. Miller, partly for her own pleasure, partly in the hope of extra inspiration. Winnie tries the same with physics teacher Boris Fillmore [Bashir Salahuddin], but he reacts in a completely different way. Sexually charged psychological drama thanks to strong interplay by Ortega and Freeman and a great supporting role by Dominczyk as Jonathan's alcoholic, sex-craving wife.
