The Nigerian director Moses Inwang delivers a film that has a remarkably good production, certainly not every director from Nigeria imitates him. Blood Vessel doesn't feel cheap and offers enough content to hold most of your attention, but that's about it. Several screenwriters contributed to the script, but the film leans so heavily on caricatured clichés that a large part of the film is blown away. In particular, the Russian antagonist who apparently has a butcher's shop on the boat is an idea that is simply no longer possible, especially not in a socially critical film like this. Furthermore, it is striking how little tension is mixed within the whole and the first half hour consists solely of a series of needlessly heavy character development, but of which each character loses all sentimental added value once they arrive on the boat. After a while the film becomes increasingly tiring to sit through and without consistent atmosphere creation there is little to be happy about here.
