Was a bit disappointing. Intense story, but the plot has some holes that do not promote credibility. Several complications that are illogical (a prison guard who has just beaten the hell out of someone and then her request for leave for the same prisoner is granted??) or quite random (some of the violent outbursts really came out of the blue fall). The fact that Eva's every choice only makes things worse is not only depressing, but also a bit far-fetched.

There is still some depth, for example in the confrontation with the 'other' mother (who continued to see her son but also suffers from it), but it doesn't exactly come through either. What really sticks is the amount of violence. Not the improvement I had hoped for after the good Den Skyldige.

Prison guard Eva [Sidse Babett Knudsen] makes an excuse to get transferred to a section for serious criminals, because she has a score to settle with Mikkel [Sebastian Bull]. Mikkel has a long criminal record and is serving time this time because he beat a fellow inmate to death. Good acting, especially by Bull, but there is no character development and (therefore) no story. He is a criminal with fits of rage, she is a spiteful, sadistic woman. And I do hope that the premise is as absurd as I think, otherwise there is something seriously wrong with the Danish prison system.

Prison = oppressive so square image… it's starting to get a bit sad. The film is oppressive enough on its own, so there's no need for that.

I hereby plead for a ban on 3:4 format for films in the cinema... Sign the petition!

An intense film… that looks realistic, but ultimately isn’t very credible. Nominated for Mother’s Day film 2025, here it is.
