When synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan announced his final concerts in 1981, his fans were in shock. It also meant a serious brake on the career of the emerging, only 21-year-old talent who was on the verge of a worldwide breakthrough. Numan struggled with the difficult combination of fame and a lack of self-confidence. However, with the support of his wife Gemma, Numan managed to return to Wembley Arena after 40 years, as a respected artist and a stronger and happier person.

In the late 1970s, Gary Numan was one of the biggest pop stars in the world. With three albums in one year (Tubeway Arm, Replicas and The Pleasure Principle), he became the dark counterpart of other pioneers in synthesizer music such as Jean-Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk. The public couldn't get enough of it, but the British press made short work of Numan and his music. Partly for this reason he decided that his concert in Wembley in 1981 would be his last concert. He continued to make albums of steadily decreasing quality, until his great love Gemma Webb encouraged him to fully focus on his own musical vision. It was the start of a miraculous resurrection that means that Gary Numan is still touring in 2022 and preparing for his 24th studio album. Numan, his family and prominent colleagues such as Jean-Michel Jarre, John Foxx (Ultravox) and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) make clear what Numan's music means then and now. A no-nonsense documentary in which Numan is extremely open about how he learned to live with the diagnosis of Asperger's and depression. The last minutes before the supreme moment, Numan's return (after 41 years) to Wembley, show how much symbolic value Numan attaches to this, but also why Gemma Webb has been his indispensable rock for 30 years.
