Nijenhuis is not exactly a Tarantino, so to speak.

Lange is full of cheap sentiment.

Although the recently deceased Omi [Wieteke van Dort] never spoke about her love for her native Indonesia, daughter Cornelie [Nadja Hüpscher] and granddaughters Jenny [Anouk Maas] and Dewi [Tara Hetharia] decide to travel to Bali together to scatter Omi's ashes and discover their own roots. And maybe they can lift the family curse Omi once told them about a long time ago. Nadja meets adventurer Frank [Edwin Jonker], Dewi gets to know the half-Dutch, half-Indonesian Ridwan [Mingus Dagelet] and Jenny gets to have sex with Bart [Jim Bakkum]. The scenes with Cornelie and Omi's ghost provide beautiful moments and show Hüpscher's acting talent, but it wouldn't be a Nijenhuis film if it didn't get bogged down in false sentiment and superficial romance wrapped in pretty pictures. Sigh...

Having a shit movie marathon. I hadn't seen this one yet, so I sat down and watched it with a plate of nasi goreng on my lap.

According to Nijenhuis, his work has become more mature, it is indeed a little less hysterical, but otherwise...

What irritated me the most this time were the extras in the background, who are constantly busy with their phone, looking at that thing or (pleonasm) very theatrically taking a selfie. Extras who always look in the direction of the camera or even into the camera.

Here again, ugly clothes (Termeulenpost, Peek & Cloppenburg).

That one guy treats that Hüpscher so exaggeratedly woman-friendly, while she just wants to fuck. But, Nijenhuis teaches us, you take a drunk woman home nicely, even if she really wants to.

Can't think of any reason why people would want to see this in 50 years. It says nothing about this time... although... the stupidity.
