JD and The Salt Flat Kid dream of stardom as a country singer, but have a habit of getting into trouble. After encountering an impresario in a prison cell, the two friends leave their small town and head for Nashville, hoping to make it to the Grand Ol' Opry. Along the way, they rescue two pretty ladies and clash with Sheriff Ledy and his idiot cousin Arthur.
