La Gran Seducción plot
After industrialization set in on the small fishing island of Santa María del Mar, the inhabitants saw their existence come to an end with pain in their hearts. But their fate is about to take a turn with the chance of a fish packing factory settling in town. All they need is a doctor who moves to the island. Their leader, Germán, moves the people to seduce Mateo, a town doctor, with the beauty of the fishing island. A little lying to get this done turns out to be no problem for them.

After just a few minutes I was struck by a phenomenon of déjà vu. And that turned out to be right, because La Gran Seducción is a remake of the fun Canadian production The Grand Seduction (2013) which in turn was a remake is of La Grande Séduction (2003). Also from Canada. Haven't seen the 2003 film. I saw the 2013 film and rated it very positively. That review would probably have been less positive if I had watched the 2003 original earlier. That reasoning certainly applies to this Mexican remake, which actually adds nothing to the 2013 film and was therefore very disappointing.
A solid production in itself. Nice setting. Nice actors. Nice story. But nothing original. For the viewer who does not have to bear the burden of one of the previous productions, the film will provide a very enjoyable experience. La Gran Seducción offers humor, drama and an obligatory feel-good ending. I didn't enjoy it very much. For the viewer who is already familiar with either of the two previous productions, La Gran Seducción is an unnecessary film. Final conclusion: solid film but didn't need to be made.

It's a remake of a remake and it's all very lame and farcical. Because the doctor doesn't catch any fish, a diver has to hook a fish. And that fish has been in the freezer before, so the doctor catches a frozen fish. If you like that kind of humor you should watch it.
