Baavgai Bolohson plot

Ulzii, a teenager from a poor neighborhood of Ulaanbaatar, is determined to win a science competition to get a scholarship. His illiterate mother finds a job in the countryside, leaving him and his brother and sister to fend for themselves in the harsh winter. Ulzii is torn between the need to take care of his siblings and his desire to study for the competition. He has no choice but to put himself in trouble to provide for his family.

Not spectacular, but a beautiful Asian film about a young man who sacrifices himself for his brothers and sisters after their mother leaves the family. The cultural pigment takes the film to a higher level. Beautifully depicted with the yurt, the impoverishment, the struggle and all the consequences that arise from the decisions that are made.

In a gigantic country like Mongolia with barely 3.5 million inhabitants, it is of course not surprising that there are huge differences between the city and the countryside, the city where the chances and opportunities are 1000x greater.

Good acting does the rest, as does the cinematography. Quite enjoyed this little film that has some similarities with other films on the same theme.
