In 1823, French inventor Joseph Niepce captured the oldest surviving photograph. Two hundred years later, Danielson and Van Aertryck discuss the development of photography and the psychological effects it had and continues to have on the human mind in this thought-provoking, exquisitely curated compilation. The film features numerous unique images, including "the making of" an ISIS recruitment video, children posing for portraits, and George Mélies's The Sacre of Édouard VII (1902). The title refers to King Edward VII's reaction to the film. A compelling and valuable addition to the public debate on the influence of (social) media on life today.

The documentary tells the story of film—from Lumière and Méliès to television, YouTube, and Voyager—and does so in the form of film itself, that is, in the form of endless videos. The common thread is that it's primarily used for entertainment—it's a unique experience to see yourself or someone else where there's nothing to reflect on, to watch people watching, and so on. The sole purpose is to get people to watch as much and as long as possible. I see the reviews are negative—one calls it like having YouTube on autoplay and the algorithm moving you from video to video—but I do find it an entertaining and fairly comprehensive compilation of film history that simultaneously makes us experience that, thanks to the camera, we live in a hall of mirrors.
