The Dmitriev Affair plot
Yuri Dmitriev digs up what the current Russian rulers would most like to forget. After years of searching, he finds a mass grave in the coniferous forests of Karelia in northwestern Russia with thousands of secretly executed during Stalin's 'Great Terror' of 1937. Not the Russian government, but Dmitriev tirelessly traces their identities in the archives and organizes memorials for the relatives . Thanks to his efforts, they finally know where their missing relatives have gone. The fact that he himself was left behind in a maternity hospital as a baby makes him a man with a mission: 'As a human being, you should be allowed to know where you come from and where your family is buried.'
