A film with, as expected, quite a bit of pace, beautiful images and an exciting progression. This was somewhat disturbed by the far-fetched role of the artist and his family. Guilt and penance. It is clearly the theme that is embraced and depicted by the director but also by the artist and his family.
The searching son is a cat with multiple lives. His motivation to suddenly start another quest comes somewhat out of the blue.
I thought it was a nice fact from the Q&A that the director chooses to use his own art and that of friends (quite cheerful) in the tiny house made for the film. Escalante once again said he wanted to make a personally tinged film near his hometown of Guanajuato. Inspired by Dostoevsky audio books, he did not entirely succeed in developing the theme of guilt in a really strong way. In my opinion, Heli -with inexperienced actors- was more impressive than this story narrated by professional actors. The ending was not necessarily a happy endingbut it just missed the point for me.
