Thijs [Minne Koole] thinks he can quickly raise some money by organizing a bus trip for six seniors. Because, Thijs thinks, they are satisfied with little. Obviously he makes a major error of judgment. His passengers are the sickly Joep [Jeroen Krabbé] and his overprotective wife Nienke [Renée Soutendijk], wealthy bon vivant Mabel [Olga Zuiderhoek] and her childhood sweetheart Anton [Kees Hulst], the “chronically grumpy” former pianist Florri [Helen Kamperveen] and “ bitch” Susanne [Geert de Jong], who has escaped from her belittling husband [Gene Bervoets]. Everyone learns life lessons during a cheerful, sometimes exciting bus trip through France, which mainly depends on the appealing cast. A light, nice comedy, but with such a fantastic group of actors it could have been more.

Take Me Along is a beautifully filmed drama / road movie with a little bit of comedy. The film starts with the introduction of all the characters. Thijs has little money and buys an old bus with his last cents and thinks he can earn money quickly by taking a few old ones with him. However, this turns out to be a bit more difficult than expected. The various characters have a whole life behind them and the necessary life experience with associated character traits. Thijs, on the other hand, still has to learn and he does so gradually in this film. The different characters develop and we get to know them better and better. Everyone learns from each other and the story continues to take shape. Personally, I expected a little more from the film, even though I enjoyed it. The cinema was full of oldies Lots of recognition there.

On the advice of my daughter, I went to the cinema to see this film. Of course I had already heard, seen and read a lot about it. We were certainly not the only ones (on New Year's Eve!).

I must say that the film pleasantly surprised me. There are some really hilarious moments, but there is also a lot of room for drama. Many recognizable moments. Many experience things in one way or another that the film does not leave undiscussed. It was also pleasant to see Kees Hulst more or less in the role of Hendrik Groen. The chemistry that slowly develops between the diverse characters is well done, never over the top. Finally, there is the French atmosphere that is poured over the whole thing like a sauce. Also important: the dialogues are clearly understandable and that is something I often miss in Dutch films.
