Verdwaalde Veteranen plot

Roy is 'on'. Always. Sometimes in the supermarket he walks positions as if he were on the battlefield. He struggles with chronic PTSD, the result of his military missions in Afghanistan. Peter was a military nurse on many missions and recognizes the fear in veteran eyes. Jaap meditates and sings to keep his 'killing lust' under control. 'Mission First!', they were always told. Another excellent, honest documentary by broadcaster HUMAN deserves praise for the guts of the people in front of and behind the camera. Soldiers with chronic PTSD who dare to be vulnerable and often tell in extreme close-ups about the impact their PTSD has on their lives are given the floor. The look in their eyes or the facial expression sometimes says more than a thousand words. The behavior of these people is unpredictable: one of them becomes so aggressive from the medication that he tackled his (now former) wife so harshly that he was imprisoned for three months. Boonstra nevertheless does not shy away from difficult questions, not even when another veteran arrives with a scooter and reports that he has just returned from a failed suicide attempt. Confrontational, painful, but with respect and compassion for the interviewees, including the care workers at the Thuisbasis shelter, who recognize that they too do not always have the expertise to help these people.
