The Machinery of Dreams plot

Lily is an eight year old girl. When her mother is hospitalized in a car accident, Lily goes to stay with her aunt and grandmother. After Lily's grandmother Beth, who suffers from dementia, tells her a fairy tale to pass the time, it becomes clear that the fairy tale is not a fairy tale at all. Lily searches for a talisman to save her mother.
