Mijn Grote Broer plot

At the end of 2019, Arie ends his life at the age of 22. No one saw it coming, not even his younger brother Gijs and his parents. An eerie and confusing time begins for the family as they try to understand what drove Arie to his death. Did they miss signals? How could there be a side of Arie they didn't know at all? And why didn't he confide his dark thoughts to them? Struggling out of the deep valley of the mourning process, Gijs and his parents discover more and more about his brother's mental state and the heavy feelings he had been struggling with for some time.

In a home video we see Arie himself and his brother Gijs during a 'march' to the lighthouse on Texel. At the end of 2019, big brother Arie took his own life at the age of 22. This documentary follows his parents and younger brother during their grieving process. The 55-minute version is limited to an anthology from that grieving process, including the laying out, the farewell, the first Christmas and personal rituals with which the family hopes to find some acceptance. While it is often small, sometimes random moments that are so important in that process. I think it is likely that the full version (94 minutes) has more depth, but this judgment is based on the shortened version.
