It Lives Inside plot

"You can't contain evil."

Sam, an Indian-American teenager, lives in an idyllic suburb with her conservative mother and her assimilated father. Her cultural insecurities grow due to her estranged friend Tamira, who mysteriously always carries an empty jar with her. In a moment of rage, Sam breaks Tamira's pot and unleashes an ancient Indian demonic force that kidnaps Tamira. Sam sets out to find Tamira and follow the trail of a young man who has performed a deadly ritual, until the demonic entity targets her, kills her boyfriend and shatters her reality with terrifying visions. Sam must team up with her parents and a sympathetic teacher to rescue Tamira and end the demon's terror.

Great film in itself, in any case the atmosphere is nice, interesting because of Indian folklore, but it is not really scary either. They would also have been better off not showing the monster because as soon as they do that, the creepiness is quickly lost, what a downer and it looks so fake.

I haven't seen many American horror films (none) that highlight Indian folklore. It Lives Inside, which was shown in Dutch cinemas, was therefore a good opportunity. What immediately struck me, however, was Megan Suri's exceptionally mediocre acting. She follows along with the same facial expression throughout the entire film, so almost every scene that is supposed to have some drama or emotion falls straight through. Director Bishal Dutta does not experience his first horror experiment with this film, but if I had not known that information I would have thought this was the case. In any case, he doesn't seem to have any idea of how to properly build up tension, because apart from rare atmospheric moments, nothing is achieved in terms of horror. I can appreciate horror films in which the monster/creature is only revealed in the final phase, but in the case of It Lives Inside I thought it was a long wait for a disappointing climax. Nice filters and interesting folklore are taken advantage of left and right, but all in all this has been a disappointing cinema visit.

What a bad horror this is, and there are a lot of bad horrors being made. Not to mince words, I would say, absolutely don't look...

It appears that our main character is rather disassociated from her peers and is rather unhappy with her life. We already have what looks like some ancient or possibly forbidden behavior. The strangeness has begun, and it's looking freaking wicked so far.

Horrific events are unfolding, and the danger could be spreading out appears. Ancient folk or mythological entitites are terrifying to come up against, I feel for our cast in this delicious tale. This was an interesting tale from the east told here on the western shore.
