Polaris plot
While Hayat navigates her sailboat as captain between the ice floes of the Arctic Ocean, her younger sister Leila gives birth to a baby girl in France. The documentary traces the lives of two sisters, who see in this new life an opportunity to break the cycle of their family history. The relationship between the two sisters, who are polar opposites in many ways, is marked by distance. By short telephone conversations at wide intervals without coverage. And at the same time there is an intimacy that can be felt right through the distance. The intimacy of a shared past of being thrown back on each other, with an alcoholic mother and absent father, and a present in which patterns repeat or threaten to repeat.
