In Tunisia, ruled by corruption, Ali [Adam Bessa] struggles enough to make ends meet. When his father dies and turns out to have a large debt with the bank, Ali tries everything to pay off the debt so that his sisters Alyssa [Salima Maatoug] and Sarra [Ikbal Harbi] can continue to live in the parental home. But the wall of corruption or bureaucracy he encounters drives him more and more to despair. Paints a striking picture of a society with a toothless government, where you are completely dependent on yourself and without money you have no chance of escaping poverty. A slow burner with an impressive, powerful role from Bessa. He and Nathan won a Lumiere Award at the Lyon Film Festival.

Strong French-Tunisian film about a young man who, together with an entire generation, suffers a hopeless existence in Tunisia where poverty and corruption are rampant. I thought we were already over the Arab Spring in the movie, but apparently not too much has changed since then.

It's poignant to see how the man has to compete against the system or the inability to earn more money. The care and responsibility he took for his sisters is admirable, but it does not achieve much.

A powerful ending with a clear statement, but I doubt it will impress the regime.

Ali is only there to do the "dirty" work. He is not given respect.

He only finds dishonesty, abuse of power and corruption.

Ali resists this and when he calls for justice everyone looks in a different direction.

What's the point? And for what?

The film, which is truly outstanding in its last twenty minutes, features a scene in the end in which human indifference has never been brought into sharper focus.

A few years after the Arab Spring, there is still a lot of dissatisfaction among the people. Rightly so, it seems.

Lead actor, Adam Bessa plays a very creditable role. Received the Certain Regard Prize in Cannes. and director Lofty Nathan creates a strong, social and also somewhat political film that deserves full attention.
