It's a first date for Sigrid and Christian and everything is going well. He is well educated, funny and also happens to be an heir to millions. Sigrid enjoys his company and his humor. The two seem destined for a happily ever after until Sigrid discovers Frank. Frank is Christian's friend, but he prefers to live his life like a dog. He wears a dog costume and Christian accepts him, bathes him, pet him and cares for him. If Sigrid wants to love Christian, she will have to accept Frank. Can Sigrid accept this unusual living situation? And more importantly, who is Frank anyway?

Billionaire heir Christian [Gard Løkke] lives an isolated existence with Frank [Nicolai Narvesen Lied], a man who only dresses and acts like a dog. Christian comes into contact with Sigrid [Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen] via a dating site and invites her to dinner. When Sigrid is introduced to Frank she recoils, but on the advice of a good friend [Amalie Willoch Njaastad], Sigrid decides to accept a second invitation. Naturally, it turns out to be more than an unconventional role-playing game. Bøe approaches the first 40 minutes as a romantic comedy around a quickly exhausted joke. The fact that it does not perform well as a thriller is mainly due to Løkke, who does not inspire enough awe to keep you on the edge of your seat. Too bad, because the premise is original and the opening promising.

A bizarre premise for a film; after a first date for Sigrid and Christian, Sigrid discovers that someone lives with Christian who prefers to live his life as a dog. Initially, this fact is worked out subtly and interestingly, until the film turns out to be a clichéd thriller in the second half and things slowly but surely go wrong. Even with a meager running time of 75 minutes, Good Boy unfortunately still proves to be too long.

An absurd, yet ultimately somewhat bare-bones thriller that, even within its very short running time, feels too long. Director Viljar Bøe's youth at least leaves the door open for a professional future, but Good Boy feels somewhat unfinished. The tension and mutual threat certainly don't quite materialize, but the film also doesn't work particularly well as a comedy. Despite the bizarre concept, the whole thing feels rather familiar, especially with the second half, which emphatically demonstrates that the film has run out of good ideas. Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen is convincing as the naive girlfriend, but Gard Løkke comes across as somewhat empty and disinterested. This is especially unfortunate, since his presence is the film's greatest strength.
