A Creature Was Stirring plot

Overprotective mother Faith, a professional nurse, keeps her teenage daughter safely locked in her room. She uses constant injections of methadone, their only means of curbing a fever that keeps a mysterious and terrifying condition at bay. But when two strangers invade the house during Christmas, seeking shelter from a storm, they discover that this mother-daughter relationship stretches the boundaries of both dysfunction and reality. The women hide a terrible secret: the presence of an evil house guest who won't be lurking for much longer.

A strange story with a mediocre cast. The practical effects score a sufficient score, but otherwise not worth watching.

2.0 *

After his entertaining horror debut, director Damien LeVeck tries his luck in the field of Christmas horror. Ultimately, this results in A Creature Was Stirring, a film that aims to remain mysterious for as long as possible with its unsurprising concept. I would safely label the aforementioned as an absolute waste of time. Scout Taylor-Compton and Connor Paolo manage to add some flair to their roles, because Annalize Basso and Chrissy Metz don't do a damn thing, to say the least. It results in an interaction between four characters, whose least developed roles receive the most attention. A truly boring opening begins, with the first hour consisting almost entirely of dramatic scenes with a short horror extravaganza left and right. The pace picks up in the last half hour, with the monster finally appearing around the corner. It doesn't get much more exciting, but the practical effects at least make an enthusiastic and involved impression. The background is further decorated with the most remarkable colors (which I am normally a fan of as a visual enthusiast), but the final lighting is so dark that the spectacle can hardly be called interesting. The camera moves energetically along with the atmospheric images, but once the forced plot twist is initiated, the film cannot count on a higher grade than a more than inadequate grade from my side.
