Grutte Pier plot
The life story of Grutte' Pier Gerfols Donia (1480-1520); a freedom fighter who fought against the counts of Holland when they decided to take over Friesland. The farmer was a huge man with superhuman strength. After an army killed his wife, Pier went to war against the governor of Friesland, whom he saw as the occupier. He set up his own army that began to plunder Dutch ships in the Zuiderzee.

The story is nice to know. But that's all. Very badly made. Acting is mediocre. Action scenes very bad. Camera work is not the best and very bad soundtrack.

Who the hell had Steven de Jong sign for this film, he is more at home with films like Snuf de hond or de Kameleon. It could have worked out better with a different director, because besides that there is no tension, emotion or good fights at all. And the fact that it all looks a bit amateurish does not help this print. The only plus point for which I gave the 1st star is Milan van Weelden as Grutte Pier, who himself is not even a Frisian but certainly does his best and as a Frisian I can certainly appreciate that.
