Four YouTubers specializing in investigating haunted houses, unexplained events, and paranormal phenomena disappear without a trace after a planned episode in the deserted town of Shelby Oaks. Three of them are found brutally murdered, but Riley remains missing, and her sister Mia investigates. Okay, maybe not the most original story, but it's certainly satisfying.

Yet, Shelby Oaks never managed to pull me into the story. There's so much in the story that doesn't quite convince me. That a demon sort of falls in love with Riley and wants to impregnate her, like Rosemary's Baby or The Omen, okay, but I didn't find it all logical. Your sister has vanished without a trace, her friends have been horribly murdered, so you go and puzzle alone at night in that exact same place. And in the abandoned prison where their murderer was held. And when you see a hellhound, what do you do? Of course, you follow it. And although your lamp in prison, of course at a crucial moment, turns out to be dead, you still have a new one available when you drive into the woods afterwards. The atmosphere is not all bad, if sometimes a bit cheesy, see all those cracked windows but the plot I really couldn't get into - it's just not that strong. Oh well, you can't always roll a six, I'll settle for a narrow failing grade.

Twelve years ago, the mutilated bodies of three members of the podcast Paranormal Paranoids were found in the ghost town of Shelby Oaks. Main host Riley [Sarah Duran] hasn't been heard from since, but recovered video footage reveals her life was also in danger. Now her sister [Camille Sullivan] investigates. It starts with a poorly acted mix of pseudo-documentary and blogger reactions and speculation, but manages to create some atmosphere about halfway through. This is ruined by the appearance of a few unpleasant—yet completely unbelievable—local creatures.

A great debut from YouTube film critic Chris Stuckman. Especially with the budget: two million.

The opening looked like it was going to be a Blair Witch movie but when the opening credits came I was very impressed.

From a novice filmmaker's perspective, it's very good, low-budget. Ignore that, and the film is incredibly predictable, with a lot of things we've seen before. But that didn't bother me much.

Curious to see what he'll do next.
