The now 85-year-old Christopher Lloyd once again lent himself to this childish Halloween film, which is clearly promotional material for the American seasonal store in question. Cinematographer David Poag was responsible for directing, but his experience in that field is only mildly noticeable in Spirit Halloween. The strongest points of the film are mainly in the concept, where a few kids have to survive the night in a cursed toy store. A big boost of fun and creativity can easily take data like this to the next level, but unfortunately the party supplies make a mixed impression. On the one hand, the film is full of (childish) action and the pace is high, on the other hand, there is no particularly exciting or creative threat. The children's acting is not bad, but Billie Bates' script only writes wooden dialogues for them that are clearly of little use to them. In addition, the film is remarkably short (which benefits from its entertainment value), but therefore misses the opportunity to make the viewer feel that the children have had a truly crazy night. Concepts like these need a director who focuses entirely on fun, but such freedom was perhaps too limited for Poag to fully turn it into a regular children's horror.
