The year 2045. An economic disaster has destroyed the value of all forms of paper and electronic money. The four great nations of the world are engaged in an enduring war to keep the economy going. Motoko Kusanagi and the other members of Public Security Section 9 apply their cybernetic enhancements and combat experience to this world to earn a living as mercenaries while defusing troubled cases. The team must spring back into action when modified individuals with highly advanced cyberbrains pose a threat to humanity.
