Louis plot

In Louis, filmmaker Geertjan Lassche paints a portrait of Louis van Gaal: one of the best football coaches our country has ever known and the man everyone has an opinion about. In the film he looks back at the highs and lows of his colorful life; not only his career, but also his background and family life. The current national coach was followed during work and private moments for no less than three years. In the conversations he had with national and international football stars, but also with his wife and daughters, a complete picture of the development of the Van Gaal phenomenon, his unprecedented career and the special man behind the much-discussed image emerged.

Just seen:

Critique 1: Sound is too loud sometimes. For example with the Bayern balcony scene. Pathe has to do something about that.

Criticism 2: All those former players were really not interesting. Would have preferred to see more Louis van Gaal in a personal atmosphere.

Critique 3: This film is a bit late to watch if you are not a football fan and you are a fan of Louis van Gaal. Hetnis 65% football, 35% personal life.

Nevertheless, 5 stars from me, because I left the film with a sad feeling. Either you normally laugh at Louis OR you are annoyed by him. I belong to the group that finds the best man entertaining and can laugh at him. I expected to be entertained, but that was disappointing. I was actually moved. I didn't expect that on a Saturday afternoon. The moments between Truus and Louis were endearing. But what touched me was how he was in the hospital (as we all are sometimes), how he sat in a hospital bed, how he cramped with pain in his wheelchair on the way home in a van (and unfortunately no one hugged or comforted him ). Truus who told me that he cried after his dismissal from United, that touched me too, and I could go on and on

5 stars, because the movie showed me Louis as a human being. I can never just look at him now. Now when he gives a press conference, I know he has a catheter, I know he prepares himself with notes in advance, etc. Good movie, but don't expect any action.

Those Louis & Truus are really cute in the movie. Furthermore, the documentary is not special, but watching Louis for 2 hours is always good. 4 stars and 1 more for that sweet Truus.

A beautiful portrait about an interesting man and one of the best coach in the world. Which also goes beyond football, and that also makes this documentary fun for non football fans.
