Something in the Dirt plot
John and his neighbor Levi live in a Los Angeles condo. They witness supernatural events. To finally make something of their puny existence, they decide to record the paranormal phenomena and share them with others. As they unravel the mystery, their friendship is jeopardized.

Mysterious mindfuck from directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who also play the leading roles here. The film is full of intriguing ideas and original visual details, but in the end the plot has so little to it that the whole repeatedly threatens to collapse like a house of cards. Fortunately, the hypothermic humor and the crazy atmosphere ensure that this get-together doesn't get too boring.

The problem with their latest discovery is that it never has a high point, even the finale remains very reserved with the images shown. Of course, budgetary restrictions and COVID-19 are partly responsible for this, but Benson and Moorhead nevertheless never bother to come up with truly impressive images. Fortunately, the content is interesting and the acting is sharp, but the gentlemen fail to provide their characters with something extra. On a visual level, many discoveries are added to speed up the event and provide it with detail, so that boredom is less likely to strike. Something in the Dirt is unpredictable and original, but will nevertheless not leave a long-lasting impression.
