Araki is an engaging director who utilizes the writer/director combination to the fullest. He consistently starts with reasonably fresh premises and then develops them in his own unique way. This results in somewhat chilly films that are also quite unpredictable, keeping you captivated.
For a first film, this one is exceptionally polished, which makes me wonder what Araki did before. Good actors, beautiful cinematography, a great soundtrack, and well-paced. These are films that require you to actively pay attention, which explains the relative lack of interest in his films.
