When bullets end the life of HJ Barton, an underworld gambler who pretended to be a respectable member of high society, his daughter Carol suffers the consequences and public opinion. Barney Dolan, a cop who was friends with Barton, promises to help Carol find her father's vicious killers. Not much later, Roger Tyler, her husband's brother, visits Carol at her hotel and confesses that he was forced by the killers to lead them to her father.
