Moroccan-Dutch Karim returns to his parental home to tell his parents that he likes men. After years of keeping up appearances, the word is finally out. When the parents decide to ignore his brave confession, he steps into the pantry and locks himself there until "it" is discussed. The difficult conversations in the days that follow evoke beautiful and poignant memories that teach him that he must break the culture of silence in the family by really confronting his loved ones now. At the same time, he has to come to terms with himself before he can expect acceptance from his family at all.

A movie with a message. You have to love that, despite the fact that you can of course agree 10000% with the message.
Told slowly and without the slightest distraction, the Karim tells us that homosexuality should be allowed, especially if that sexuality is not consumed in bars and discos almost specially equipped for that purpose, but neatly with the love of your life in bed at home.
Neat.
But you don't have to convert the people who come to see this film, the white left-liberal establishment. Mandatory spinning before the football match starts. Or in the mosque after the service. Something like that.
Go and have a look anyway.

Moroccan Karim Zahwani [Fahd Larhzaoui] has been able to hide his homosexuality from his family for a long time, until his father [Slimane Dazi] catches him in his apartment with Kofi [Emmanuel Boafo]. Now Karim has to come out of the closet, but his father and mother [Lubna Azabal] try to ignore him, even when he locks himself in the room under the stairs and the water, the electricity and the Internet break. Starts with a pleasantly light-hearted, at times downright humorous tone, but Nasr's directing ultimately turns out to be very heavy-handed, making it a too weighty, even pretentious picture, despite the good intentions. I really appreciate Nasrdin Dchar as a person and as a theater maker and actor, but I found him a bit disappointing here. He didn't convince me as the depressed cousin and especially his crying fit contributed to that incredibility. His role wasn't big, so it wasn't that disturbing. Fahd Larhzaoui, on the other hand, really convinced me as Karim, who ironically came out by being closeted. Very well played by both him and the parents and brother in this film. What struck me is that just about all the clichés that exist about Moroccans were present in this film, which I sometimes found a bit too much in terms of stereotypes. Anyway, I rate this film very highly, because it did touch me. The dreams in the closet with flashbacks to his childhood, and even conversations with his younger self, very well done.
