Well, today's reality...

We follow Johnny, who mainly sells drugs together with his boyfriend Youssef in the nightly hours of Antwerp. One day Johnny comes face to face with one of the buyers: the actor Anthony. This much older man likes a Sosje and can use Johnny for that. Johnny, in turn, is admired by Anthony's acting life and may see an opportunity to build another life.

In the meantime, he lives with his manic-depressive mother, who has a good influence in Johnny's doings because of her debauchery. However, we often find him at a day care center, where he lets his early love affairs speak to a group member. In principle, there are already quite a few things to keep him out of that world. But then we come to his owner, the slightly older drug lord Luca, who keeps young boys on a string to do the practices for him.

You don't know how Johnny ended up in this world, but you can guess that the illusions that this should be the ultimate life to escape the daily grind, would have brought him this far. Sverre Rous also plays a convincing role here; a typical petty criminal. Now also nice to hear that typical gangster language in Flemish (with things like "brother" and "wojooh" to name a few. ) The world that is outlined here is raw and goes nowhere. is just once again pressed to the facts. The scenes with that girl, and with his mother seem to be the bright spots so far. I always had my doubts about Anthony.

And yes, that ending... That just had to happen...

I'm waiting for a Dutch film in this trend... Without those Top Notch rappers being introduced again in cow letters.

4.0*

Because his psychotic mother [Veerle Baetens] is unable to take care of him, Johnny [Sverre Rous] usually lives in a residential group. With his friend Youssef [Ayman Sitiane] he sells SOS (cocaine) in the service of Luca [Bart Hollanders]. When the well-known stage actor Antony Ophoff [Ben Segers] regularly uses his service, a twisted father/son relationship develops between the two lonely souls. Some heavy-handed drama benefits from Rous' convincing acting and strong supporting work from Hollanders, but Perceval (drawing from personal experience) seems to have filmed three endings and couldn't (or dared) choose which was the most appropriate ending. Artistic or frustrating? I'm going for option two.

In the beginning I had something of the level is not really high, but luckily the film got better. The cast did very well, especially that boy came across as very natural.

The story was not boring.

It was a movie that grew.
