Pan Deng Zhe plot
May 1960. Mount Everest, the second pass under the cliff. The four members of the China Everest Climbing Command attack the most difficult "second pass". This is their fifth attempt. The first four failures cost them too much physical strength. Finally, wind and snow stop the gorge.

Daniel Lee has had a really good period, but lately it has been less so. I thought this film was quite fun, I like a climbing adventure, especially when the heating is on inside. Unfortunately, Lee makes it a bit too colorful.
Considering the height and natural elements to be overcome, such a mountain climb may be somewhat epic. But that doesn't mean you have to blow up every moment into something big. It's all so thick and sentimental that it becomes a bit tiring. Lots of big emotions and heavy moments, while I just want some tension and a lot of snow in these types of films.
Fortunately, there is enough of that, but you can rarely enjoy it for long. In addition, the Chinese flag waving is also a bit too emphatic in this film. I'm usually fairly immune to that kind of thing, so if it bothers me at all, you can assume that it goes quite over the limit.
It's not really bad, but the time when Lee produced a 4* film without much apparent effort has been behind us for a while. I think he'd better put the blockbuster thing behind him for a while and go back to the source. A little smaller, a little purer. That produces better films.

What a cool movie. Maybe a bit exaggerated at times, but in the mountains this film is really enjoyable. Clearly not for everyone because this film gets far too low a score in my opinion.
Ziyi Zhang and Jing Wu have good chemistry even though their romance never really takes off.. Jackie Chan also apparently plays a part in this according to Google? I didn't notice at all.
