Dead in the Water plot

An expedition, consisting of an all-female crew, lies overnight in the Pacific Ocean, hundreds of miles from civilization. They are trying to track down illegal fishing activities. Things go horribly wrong when the crew falls into a trap and ends up being chased by the stranger they rescued from a shipwreck. Apparently no good deed goes unpunished in these waters.

The visual quality of Dead in the Water shows that a director like Sheldon Wilson has indeed made progress as a director, despite the budgetary limitations. When he concentrates on pure genre work, his films are enjoyable to watch, although this particular film is a little too concerned with relationship development. In a film where a fishing boat is under fire after just 3 minutes, this is not a very wise choice, even though the acting of the ladies is certainly not without merit. What bothered me as a viewer was the particularly long run-up that builds up to disappointing science fiction scenes, especially when it cannot really take on the threat of the ocean/the unknown. The cinematography looks neat, the filters are professional and the atmosphere is nice, but once the full concept is revealed, it leaves a somewhat thoughtless and especially small-scale impression.
