About ten years ago, filmmaker Ton van Zantvoort got to know the idealistic Stijn as a cheerful, relaxed man. Stijn is one of the last remaining traditionally working Dutch shepherds. With his sheep and three faithful four-legged friends, he crosses natural areas and farmlands, with the grazing herd working the land in an environmentally friendly way. But little is left of the romance and tranquility that we associate with the age-old profession of shepherd. Tenders are becoming increasingly complex and contracts more difficult to win, because large companies, cheap Eastern European herders and smart machines easily beat Stijn in terms of costs. The documentary follows Stijn and his family in their quest to keep the tradition alive. Will his struggle pay off or will he have to go with the flock?
