The Green Fog plot
"Let mystery have its place in you"
The Green Fog's prologue shows a dial that flips from "Talk" to "Listen". In a studio cinema, a man in handcuffs is held at gunpoint as he watches the images on the screen. A map can be seen, with a finger pointing at San Francisco. Reporters stand in front of a building, ready to deliver news over the loudspeaker; the audience waits in fear. The Golden Gate Bridge appears, bathed in green light; a storm arises, the steep streets of the city are completely deserted. The structure of this Guy Maddin, Galen Johnson and Evan Johnson film pays tribute to Hitchcock's Vertigo: a dizzying collection of film and TV footage, both known and unknown, all from the Bay Area. The makers have created a cinematic fantasy from this wealth of found material.
