Xin Mo plot
In a small town, the only son of a local influential family is found dead and naked in a wine shop. His father, Lin Chi-hsing, insists the murder was committed by Tseng Chai-chu, Cheng Niang's husband. Tseng claims he is innocent. The father then tries to bribe a magistrate, Tang, to immediately execute Tseng. Cheng Niang hears about her husband's death and hangs herself. Conscience-stricken Magistrate Tang begins to see the ghosts of Tseng and Cheng Niang every night.
