Pilotenmasker plot
Simonka de Jong follows the hospital life of a group of young children diagnosed with cancer. The children are closely monitored during their stay and the treatments in the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht. They have to endure a lot, from injections and scans to operations and hair loss. From the perspective of the children it can be seen how they cope with this. Intimate shots are interspersed with surprising images shot by the 4- and 5-year-old children themselves: the ceiling from their hospital bed, orange footsteps in the hallway and the endless series of tubes to which they are attached. The time in the hospital is an emotional rollercoaster. How do they undergo the sometimes painful procedures, how do they react to disappointing results and how do they deal with their illness?
