What a... movie this was.

Category C.

Paper thin story and very poorly acted.

A waste of your time!

This claustrophobic film was shot in multiple locations within 14 days. According to an interview with "1428 Elm", director Matt Eskandari expressed that the film came from his own fear of swimming pools and oceans. In his own words, he expressed: "Pools and oceans all create a bona fide sense of fear for me. Just the whole idea of being stuck in a pool makes me sweat quite a bit. I decided to put this fear to rest." use, and the concept blossomed from there.” The character Jonna is mentioned as a tribute to Jonah from the Old Testament. Better known as a character trapped in the belly of a whale. The character McGradey is played by Tobin Bell, and was named after the character Charles Grady from The Shining. This is director Eskandari's favorite horror film. The public pool in the film is called the "Ketea Aquatic Center." This was named after the monsters of the sea in Greek mythology.

In general, I am a big fan of claustrophobic films, and this thriller also has its moments. However, the plot contains some holes, which did not make it a credible film for me. On the other hand, it is nice that the film is largely carried by two characters for 85 minutes. If you are a fan of a thriller with a lot of action, then this is not for you. Otherwise it's quite entertaining.

2.5 *

When Tobin Bell (almost invariably typecast as a villain and best known as Jigsaw in the Saw series) closes the pool in a small role as an unsympathetic lifeguard, two sisters are accidentally left behind in the water under the cover. In the remainder of the film they will do everything they can to get out of the pool.

Director and writer Matt Eskandari creates a modest plot for a film that is not very long at 85 minutes, but which still needs an end after the sisters have maneuvered themselves into this dire situation. Curious to see what elements Eskandari brings in to keep the tension high until the end.

It won't be the two sisters' fault. They play their role convincingly and still have some old pain to deal with among themselves that does not improve the mood. A sophisticated score and the cool blue color scheme further enhance the oppressive feeling. The kick-off is not bad at all.

Yet the film fails to captivate throughout its entire length. Despite the inclusion of some expected and unexpected elements, the film starts to feel a bit drawn out. The elements themselves are interesting, but the hassle surrounding the inserted elements simply takes too long. Curiosity, fascination and tension slowly fade away.

Matt Eskandri got the idea for the film based on his own fear of being trapped in a swimming pool. People with the same fear will undoubtedly experience this film with trepidation. People who don't suffer from this fear will simply see a mediocre film.
