"The fairy tale is over."

After her mother died in a tragic accident shortly after she was born, little Lilliana is raised in their spacious castle alone by her father Friedrich and her great-aunt. She has a carefree childhood, but that suddenly changes when her father decides to remarry Lady Claudia. When Claudia and Friedrich's son is stillborn and it turns out that Claudia will never be able to bear children again, the fragile bond between Lilliana and Claudia becomes more grim. Claudia decides to have the teenager killed by her deaf and mute brother Gustav. When that fails, Lilliana goes on the run and from then on, the vengeful Claudia invokes black magic to get rid of Lilliana for good.

Watched yesterday.

If this is truly intended as a horror film, it misses the mark quite a bit, as I couldn't find anything in that direction.

Nice fairytale-like film, but it doesn't add much to the already old and well-known story.

Weaver is fun as the evil queen, but it's all way too soft and the dwarves were sorely missed.

I also thought the story was told quite slowly and not all that great (boring?).

The last ten minutes I believed and went to sleep.

A four, or 2 stars.

A somber horror story that offers a different perspective on the familiar fairy tale theme. The story is beautifully illustrated by the atmospheric visuals, and the cast is in excellent form. 6/10

A darker, less fairytale-like retelling of Snow White. Calling this horror is a bit of an exaggeration; I think dark fantasy is a better description. Sigourney Weaver was an added bonus as the Evil Queen Claudia, and the film's grim accents work quite well. Sam Neill isn't much to write home about as Snow White's father, but I thought Keena was quite fitting as the frail princess. Actually, I didn't think this film was bad at all.
