Hell Comes to Frogtown is a wonderful 80s product. The story is quite original and it exudes a real sense of fun.

And Roddy Piper is the embodiment of that joy. In the special features on the excellent Arrow Blu-ray, he explains that he didn't know much about acting and just wanted to have fun, and he truly radiates that. He's utterly charming, and at the end, when he gets to show off his wrestling skills, he's quite intense.

The film also has a wonderfully apocalyptic atmosphere, and the frogs from the title are cool creatures. They don't have the most expressive faces, but they look cool. They do occasionally suffer from a bout of overacting, but that makes it all the more entertaining.

And we can't complain about the female beauty either. Sandahl Bergman is a bit too thin, but Cec Verrell is stunning as a tough chick, and thankfully, she shows off a lot. However, for a film with such a plot, it could have been a bit more daring, because yes, it was a bit tame at times.

But otherwise this is another very nice addition to the collection, and the 80s once again guarantee an extremely entertaining low-budget B-product.

A rather strange story, the simplest way to describe Hell Comes to Frogtown. The cover of the Arrow Blu-ray was the main reason I wanted to see this film. It exudes a tremendous amount of flak, and yes, of course, it was. So the story is rather pathetic, but at the same time, it also delivers a good dose of humor. The film is frequently funny, thanks mainly to Roddy Piper's performance, who seems to have had a blast making it. The frogs range from weak to strong. Some resembled those machines you used to have in the 90s, which were sometimes seen as shows for the very youngest children in amusement parks. The movement of a single frog reminded me briefly of my time as a toddler. Other frogs looked much better. The overall execution was therefore much, much better. Hell Comes to Frogtown is a fun mix of comedy and science fiction, which ultimately ends up feeling more like an action film. It's quite dated these days, but I suspect it was a decent film at the time of its release. If you can get past that, you'll have plenty of entertainment for about 85 minutes.

An absurd story of course, but still entertaining at times plus attractive women who take off half their clothes, what more could you want.
