Beti and Amare plot
1936. The Italians invade Ethiopia. When Beti goes into hiding with her grandfather, who lives in the middle of the savannah, she attracts the attention of men in the area. The father of one of them comes up with a marriage proposal, but when Grandfather rejects it and is so unwise to leave Beti alone for three days, she seems easy prey for the men. However, Beti—who had been dreaming of comets and the approach of 'something strange'—is saved by the sudden impact of three meteorites. The next day a naked boy with tusks emerges from a kind of egg. An alien. She calls him Amare.
