Limbo plot
Sara lives in Nakskov, a faded harbor town on the southern Danish island of Lolland. Kids cycle in parking lots, country bumps talk in the pub about their careers in the local sugar factory - not exactly a stimulating environment for an intelligent, ambitious girl. Sara can't captivate her classmates either. Only the drama lessons at school make her enthusiastic, especially because they are taught by Karen. Sara falls in love with the young teacher, confesses to Karen and is rejected. The consequences are dramatic.

Viewed purely because it was Danish. But indeed a disappointment. It is a coming of age of a teenage girl who has a crush on her teacher, but does not see a positive response. The film remains on the surface. Not much balance in the film either. Too much focus on other things that don't matter.
The sugar beet production, for example, has little to do with the film or the girl. It's not even functional. And to serve as an atmospheric image, they are too prominent. A film also with limited dialogues, many silences and stylistic images. A lot of focus then on the class happenings on social themes. A film without balance and a bit too vague. Shame.
